1 Introduction
News Granth (“we”, “us”, “our”) publishes Hindi news and a daily e-paper at newsgranth.com and through the News Granth Android app (package com.newsgranth.app). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information.
This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how it is used and protected, and the choices you have. By using our website or app you agree to this policy.
2 Information we collect
Information you give us
- Reader account: name, mobile phone number, email address (where asked) and a password when you register or log in to read premium e-paper pages. Passwords are stored in an encrypted (hashed) form, never in plain text.
- Membership: the plan you choose, its start and end dates, and the payment reference (transaction ID and status) of your subscription.
- Reporter / partner forms: the details you submit when you apply to join as a reporter or use the reporter panel (for example name, contact details, address and the news content you send).
- Messages: anything you send us through the contact form, email or phone.
Information collected automatically
- Usage data: pages and e-paper editions viewed, date and time of visits, and basic app activity, used to understand how the service is used.
- Device and log data: IP address, browser or device type, operating system, app version and crash or error information.
- Login token: after you log in to the app we keep a login token on your device so that you stay signed in.
3 How we use information
- To create and manage your account, log you in and keep you signed in.
- To provide the e-paper, including free pages and premium pages for active members.
- To process and confirm membership payments, and to send you important service messages about your account or membership.
- To review and publish reporter submissions, and to respond to your requests and enquiries.
- To keep the website and app secure, prevent misuse and fix errors.
- To understand usage and improve our content, performance and user experience.
- To comply with applicable law.
We do not sell your personal information.
5 Payments
Paid membership is processed by a third-party payment gateway on its own secure page. Your card, UPI or bank details are entered there and are handled under the gateway’s own privacy policy. We receive only the payment status, amount and transaction reference so that we can activate your membership.
6 Cookies & app storage
The website uses cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in, remember your preferences (for example the e-paper edition and date you opened) and improve performance. The app stores a small amount of data on your device (login token, last selected edition and city) for the same purpose.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or clear the app’s data in Android settings. Some features, such as staying logged in, may not work without them.
7 Data retention
| Data | How long we keep it |
|---|---|
| Account details (name, mobile, email) | Until you ask us to delete your account. |
| Membership and payment records | As long as needed for accounting, tax and legal requirements, then removed or anonymised. |
| Server logs | A limited period for security and troubleshooting. |
| Messages and reporter submissions | As long as needed to respond to you or to publish the news item. |
8 Delete your account & data
You can ask us at any time to delete your reader account and the personal data linked to it (name, mobile number, email address and login details).
- Send an email to info@newsgranth.com with the subject “Delete my News Granth account”, from your registered email or mentioning your registered mobile number. You can also call or WhatsApp +91 9801777920.
- We may ask you to confirm that the request is yours.
- We delete the account and its personal data within 30 days, except records we must keep by law (for example payment records), which are kept only for that purpose.
If you delete your account, any active membership linked to it ends and cannot be restored.
9 Data security
All traffic between your device and our website or app is encrypted with HTTPS. Passwords are stored hashed, access to our admin and reporter panels is protected by login, and we limit who can see personal data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your data from unauthorised access, loss or misuse.
10 Your choices & rights
- Ask to see the personal information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct information that is wrong or out of date.
- Ask us to delete your account and data (see section 8).
- Withdraw consent for optional processing, or stop using the service at any time.
To use any of these rights, contact us using the details in section 14.
